The Art of De-cluttering: 10 Ways on How to Keep Your Condo Organized

Posted on November 9, 2015 by Fortglobalcondo — No Comments ↓

Condos are usually easy to clean because of their size, but sometimes, they still end up messy. Are you familiar with this? Well, it’s probably because you have no idea how to clean up your space.

If this is the case, then here are 10 simple tips that would help you keep the mess away from your condo, or at least out of sight.

1. Keep What You Need—and Chuck the Rest

Not everything you own is useful to you. For example, when was the last time you actually used that juicer? Or, what about that brooch that your mother gave you ten years ago?
The key here is to make a list of things you know you’re going to use, and things that you do not really have any use for. Go from room to room, and then check your list once you have made an inventory. Chuck those that you don’t need away. You’ll be surprised at the amount of space you’ll be able to free after.

2. Go Vertical

Even Marie Kondo, author of the famous The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, agrees that it’s best to pile high (as long as the items are organized), instead of using waist-high shelves that would just use a lot of space—and gather clutter at home!

3. Make Regular Edits

This means you have to clean not just once a year, but at least per season—or every three months. If you can clean up each month, that would be great, too. This way, you won’t end up collecting items you probably won’t use in the long run.

4. Double Duty

What’s great about living in a condo is that you can buy items that do more than their original purpose. For example, a beanbag could also be used as a place for some of your books to be displayed on. Or, an ottoman, aside from being a seat, could also be used as storage space. Be creative!

5. Stop Hoarding Freebies

more freebies more space

The next time you find yourself at the mall getting another shampoo special offer from a saleslady, ask yourself whether you’re actually going to use it or not. If yes, use it right away. If not, just turn the offer down—or give it to someone you know will use it.

6. Circle Your Way Around the Kitchen

When cleaning the kitchen, condo unit owners agree that it’s best to begin on the right side of the stove, and then go ahead and clean your way clockwise. This is in order for you to tackle the stove—which is the dirtiest part of the kitchen—first before anything else, so cleaning would be a breeze later!

7. Sweep the Right Way

Simple sweeping could be a lot of help! Just make sure that you do it right. You can do this by holding the broom like a canoe paddle, and make sure that you push your hands after every stroke in opposite directions to gather every speck of dirt!

8. Keep Only the Essentials in Your Room

A messy bedroom could invoke a cluttered mind—so keep it simple. Aside from the bed and a closet, keep a lamp, a clock, and some tissues on the nightstand; and moisturizers, a book, and other pampering materials in a box under the bed. That’s it.

9. Clean the Toilet with Juice

Use a teaspoon of citrus-flavored juice drink to clean the toilet. Drop it, let it stand for a few minutes, and flush! This works like a scrubber and would give the toilet an extra shine.

10. Go digital

be digital and clean

Do you really need all those CDs and photo albums? Have you actually been using them at all, or are they just gathering dust? Be practical and go digital. It would save you a lot of space.

Condo living doesn’t have to be messy living. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll surely have a clean, lovely space!
