Being one of the owners of a condo unit in McKinley Hill is cool but converting it into a smart home is bordering to being awesome. You’re not just living in a high-class condominium but also going home at one of the “smartest” units in there and it is more than setting your LCD TV’s sleep mode feature.

What is the life of a smart condo owner? You can turn on the TV; brew coffee; lower the thermostat; and adjust the air conditioner while you’re sitting in your living room. Only with a few swipes on your smartphone, you could execute a series of commands to perform all of these at the same time. Imagine getting ready for work by tweaking how will certain appliances must operate without scurrying from room to room. This is quite an enticing scenario, but someone did say that, “There’s always a flaw in the system.”
Pre-programming household chores is possible through home automation system. You can control the settings remotely or while you’re at work. You just have to stay connected to your home via a strong internet connection. Another challenge you must handle is making sure your smart home will never outsmart you. If this happens, you might be unaware that you’re already walking in a den full of technological traps.

As mentioned above, one of the requirements is 24/7 internet connection. A smart home consists of interconnected wireless smart appliances because this is the way they will communicate to each other. The downside of this type of setting is the possibility of being hacked. It is like having your own horror movie setting inside your condo where an outside “entity” could easily turn on and off any of your smart appliances at home. The worst scenario you might encounter is a burglar clever enough to intercept your system while you’re away just to get inside.
Another thing is a Jetson-like lifestyle is sky rocketing expensive. You must also learn a few basic debugging tricks once there is a glitch in the system and you should be able to do updates when the software needs one. Accept the fact that there might be a “misunderstanding” between two or more gadgets due to interference problems and you need to be cool about it. Learn how to set restrictions of which gadget or appliance will “talk” to whom and not.
The purpose of home automation system is to simplify one’s life yet if you’re new to this kind of technology you need to undergo through certain adjustments such as familiarizing and understanding its complexity. This is necessary to be able to operate the whole system without sacrificing your privacy and the lives of your loved ones.
