Condos for sale in the Fort, Makati, and other commercial centers in the Philippines are becoming more and more popular. Mostly, young Filipinos are the reason for this; they seem to prefer to live in urban areas that are near different and prominent establishments like shopping malls, restaurants, and museums.
Younger Filipinos have also expressed interest in decorating and integrating their personalities in their condo units. One of the ways to do this is by painting their walls. By changing the color or design of their walls, people are able to incorporate their styles in their own homes and influence the mood in certain rooms. There are two options that you should consider if you want to change the color of your unit’s walls: paint and wallpaper. Before deciding which to use, check their advantages and disadvantages below:
Paint
Advantages: Paint is generally cheaper compared to wallpaper. There is also less fuss when it comes to its preparation; all you need are a few set of supplies such as rollers, some newspapers, and cans of paint. You do not need much training to paint your walls. If you are not that skilled, you don’t need to worry because it is pretty easy to hide imperfections while using paint instead of wallpapers, especially if you use non-reflective colors. Moreover, you’ll have more freedom to decorate if you use paint; you can add in some details afterwards like your very own painting or a quote from your favorite book.
Disadvantages: There is a high probability that you would create a huge mess while painting your walls. It can leave stains on your appliances, furniture, ceilings, and floors that can be very hard to get rid of as well. You may also find yourself repainting your walls after some time because paint has a tendency to crack and chip. Furthermore, paint has a very limited design or palette for you to choose from. It is also known to release VOCs or volatile organic compounds which can be harmful to people’s health.
Wallpaper
Advantages: Initially, you may think wallpaper is more expensive than paint. This may be true but in the long run, you’ll realize that wallpapers are actually cost-effective because they are more durable. Paint needs to be retouched every two years while wallpapers can last for around 10 years at least. It also has the tendency to make a room in your unit more fashionable – something that is very difficult to achieve with paint. In addition, there are many designs to choose from when it comes to wallpapers. You can even mix and match them with your furniture to make your place look stylish.
Disadvantages: Applying wallpaper is essentially more difficult than simply painting your walls because it involves some prep work before and after. You also cannot just paint over them once you change your mind for whatever reason. In addition, they are more susceptible to dirt and damages. They can come loose if you live in humid areas and this might cost you more because wallpapers are not easy to replace. It’s worst disadvantage is that wallpaper designs come and go. This means that, in some instances, you might not be able to find the wallpaper design that you are currently using, making it harder for you to decorate your walls.
Both paint and wallpaper have their pros and cons. In the end, you should choose one which disadvantages will not be a huge problem for you. This means that if creating a big mess while painting your unit’s walls is not a big deal for you, then you should go for it. On the other hand, if you have enough money to purchase and apply wallpapers, then go and start choosing a design now.
