6 Ways to Keep Your Condo Safe

Posted on August 25, 2016 by nikki — No Comments ↓

Safety is one of the most important things a person must consider before buying a condominium. Most condominiums, like a BGC condo for sale, are equipped with safety tools with matching vigilant guards to keep each resident’s mind at peace. However, it doesn’t hurt to be cautious right? Here are some ways on how you can keep your condo safe especially if you are someone who travels frequently:

  1. Keep an updated inventory of your belongings

Make sure you have a list of all of your possessions, especially the valuable ones. This will help you easily notice when something is missing in your home. When you keep a list of your things, you won’t have difficulty checking your stuff before you travel and after you get home.

  1. Hide your valuables

Keep all of your valuables in the least possible places you’d hide them. Majority of the money and jewelry are expected to be in the bedroom so don’t make it easy for the robbers. Be creative in hiding things; for instance, put your laptop under a pile of clothes in a laundry basket or separate your cash in thick books like the encyclopedias.

  1. Check all nooks and crannies

This means, check the faucets, roof, and even your trash cans. Make sure the trash cans are empty so your place won’t smell like rotten food when you come home. If you see any leakage in the plumbing system or on the roof, immediately report it to the condominium administrator to get the problem fixed before you leave. Doing this might not keep you safe from intruders, but it will definitely keep your condo secured from health hazards.

  1. Unplug electrical appliances

The last thing you want is to come home and find your unit in ashes because you forgot to unplug a small appliance like, for example, the coffee maker. When left alone, plugged appliances can cause overheating which might lead to fire and other problems.

  1. Lock things down

Everything that needs to be locked must be locked. Whatever door or window you have in your condominium, secure them all. Test each lock first to make sure that they are functioning well. Locking is easier said than done but just remember that robbers prefer to work quickly and locked doors and windows will slow them down.

  1. Have a trusty relative or friend check in

Give a relative or a friend a head’s-up that you are going to leave for a while. Provide them with a copy of your unit’s key and your contact info so they will know how to reach you when they notice something is amiss.

Once you get home, inspect your condominium again. Search carefully for signs of entry or any missing items. Take note of misplaced objects as well, such as a random vase on the floor when it was supposed to be on the coffee table. Once you have detected these signs, contact the police immediately. There may be no reason for you to worry about your unit’s safety but, as mentioned above, there is no harm in exercising caution right?
