7 Ways to Babyproof Your Condo

There are many condos for sale in McKinley Hill and most probably those planning to settle down are the ones looking through those show rooms at the moment. When looking through new homes, parents must remember to consider the safety of every area of their new abode. If you feel like some areas of the condo are not safe for children, you should childproof them.

Childproofing is the act of making a space safe for children. When you childproof a home, you are lowering the risks of injuries that your children might have. You can do this by restricting the places that your little ones can access for their own safety.

Aside from that, here are some tips on how you can childproof your condo and make it a safer place for your kids!

Secure Your Furniture

Tie them down just in case. Top-heavy kind of furniture, dressers, or shelves can fall down. If you have any televisions sets, don’t put them on top of drawers since they can be climbed on and the wires can be pulled on. You should also install edge bumpers on furniture with sharp edges; otherwise, your children might hurt themselves if they accidentally run into them.

Secure the Crib

Some parents use cribs that have railings that drop so it’s easier for them take their children out of the crib. However, when choosing a crib, you should make sure that the slits between the railings are not big enough that your babies can fall out of it. If you’re setting your kids down to sleep, make sure that the drop down rail is fastened properly so that your little ones won’t be able to get out if they wake up in the middle of the night.

Keep Your Appliances Out of Reach

The cords should also be tied, stapled, or taped to the wall. Unfastened cords can be pulled on and those appliances can easily slip off the higher surface, fall down, and hurt your children. Your kids can also get electrocuted, so watch out for frayed wires and fix or replace them immediately. As much as possible, keep those wires and appliances out of reach or off the floor, since tangled wires can also strangle your children.

Lock the Windows

If your children are very eager to explore their surroundings, screens won’t prevent them from opening the window and accidentally falling down so make sure to lock them. In addition, keep your blind cords tied up and out of reach. Also, don’t keep your kids’ playpen or crib near windows with blinds either.

Cover Sockets

Your child will think that poking a socket with a fork might be fun, so cover those sockets!

Gates

Install gates to restrict your child into safe areas only. You can also install them to prevent kids from getting into specific rooms, such as those you didn’t childproof.

Toys

Choose only toys that are safe and are not choking hazards. Any toy with small parts shouldn’t be given to children.

To be able to find out what else you need to childproof, get down on the floor and see the world through your children’s eyes. That way, you will know what else you can do to keep your babies safe.
